'Antcient Of Days'
©1999 Carol J. Phipps

This lion was finished on August 17, 1999 while going through chemo therapy and is another piece which brought a flood of emotion as it was completed. In the foreground blue feet clearly show the lion running forward; ready or not, here he comes! I’ve imagined the large piercing, yet soft, inviting eyes as saying, "Live! Live!" (Ezekiel 16:6.) The eyes invite those who would hear, “Come, let us reason together” (Isaiah 1:18). The colors I used for both the lion and the tulips (“Love Suffers Long . . . “), proved nearly over-whelming for my senses as I completed them; the process was extremely fatiguing, yet satisfying. (Revelation 5; Lamentations 3:10+; Hosea 5:14+; Daniel 7.)

Medium: created with colors torn and cut from magazine paper; highlighted with eyebrow pencil; coated with acrylic spray. (11" x 17")
